Detailed History
Nine series 3 Bristol VRT/SL3/6LXB's with ECW bodywork and Gardner six-cylinder diesel engines were bought new by Southern Vectis in 1978 and entered service in National Bus Company Leaf Green & White livery. They were identical to the batch previously delivered in 1977.

Six of them were withdrawn from service in:
April 1979: UDL671S [671] / UDL672S [672] / UDL673S [673] & UDL674S [674]
May 1979: UDL675S [675]
July 1979: UDL676S [676]

The remaining three were repainted into deregulation Emerald Green & Cream livery in:
September 1986: UDL668S [668] & UDL669S [669]
October 1989: UDL670S [670]

They were withdrawn from service in:
January 1994: UDL668S [668] / UDL669S [669] & UDL670S [670]

Subsequent History

UDL668S [668]:

  • In January 1994 it was transferred to Solent Blue Line and operated as their number [108].
  • In September 1997 it was sold to Johnson Brothers of Hodthorpe. [per Dave Shaw]

UDL669S [669]:

  • In January 1994 it was transferred to Solent Blue Line and operated as their number [109].
  • In September 1997 it was sold to the Bristol VR 669 Preservation Group of Eltham for preservation. [per Dave Shaw]
  • It was subsequently sold to C. Evennett of Chatham (for preservation).
  • It then passed (probably in 2001) to T. Hussey of Basingstoke (for preservation).

UDL670S [670]:

  • In August 1995 it was sold to Wrigley of Irlam. [per Dave Shaw]
    In 2002 following engine failure it was scrapped by Wrigley. [per John Haines]

UDL671S [671]:

  • On 5 April 1979 it was transferred to Hants & Dorset operating as their number [3414] in exchange for a convertible open-top Bristol VRT, UFX855S. [per Dave Jolliffe]
  • In April 1983 it was transferred to Wilts & Dorset and operated as their number [3414]. It was subsequently renumbered to [4414].
  • It was subsequently sold to Damory Coaches of Blandford and operated as their number [4414] and was renumbered to [5073] in June 2001.

UDL672S [672]:

  • On 5 April 1979 it was transferred to Hants & Dorset operating as their number [3415] in exchange for a convertible open-top Bristol VRT, UFX856S. [per Dave Jolliffe]
  • In April 1983 it was transferred to Wilts & Dorset and operated as their number [3415].
  • In August 1995 it was sold to Ripley of Carlton (dealer) and scrapped. [per Dave Shaw]

UDL673S [673]:

  • On 21 April 1979 it was transferred to Hants & Dorset operating as their number [3416] in exchange for a convertible open-top Bristol VRT, UFX857S. [per Dave Jolliffe]
  • In April 1983 it was transferred to Wilts & Dorset and operated as their number [3416]. It was subsequently renumbered to [4416].
  • In September 1999 it was sold to Damory Coaches of Blandford and operated as their number [5066]. It was refurbished during February 2000.

UDL674S [674]:

  • On 23 April 1979 it was transferred to Hants & Dorset operating as their number [3417] in exchange for a convertible open-top Bristol VRT, UFX858S. [per Dave Jolliffe]
  • In April 1983 it was transferred to Wilts & Dorset and operated as their number [3417]. It was subsequently renumbered to [4417].
    By August 2006 it was noted being cannibalised for spares (

UDL675S [675]:

  • On 8 May 1979 it was transferred to Hants & Dorset operating as their number [3418] in exchange for a convertible open-top Bristol VRT, UFX859S. [per Dave Jolliffe]
  • In April 1983 it was transferred to Wilts & Dorset and operated as their number [3418] and was subsequently renumbered [4418]. In April 1998 it was withdrawn. [per Dave Shaw]
  • In September 2000 it was sold to Wigley of Carlton (dealer) and scrapped.

UDL676S [676]:

  • On 13 July 1979 it was transferred to Hants & Dorset operating as their number [3419] in exchange for a convertible open-top Bristol VRT, UFX860S. [per Dave Jolliffe]
  • In April 1983 it was transferred to Wilts & Dorset and operated as their number [3419] and was subsequently renumbered [4419].
  • In September 2000 it was sold to Wigley of Carlton (dealer) and scrapped.
